Susan Margaret Boyle (born 1 April 1961) is a Scottish singer who came to public attention when she appeared as a contestant on the third series of Britain’s Got Talent, and ended up the runner up of the 2009 edition of that show. Boyle became known when she sang “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Misérables in the competition’s first round, first broadcast in the United Kingdom on 11 April 2009.
London – Street dancers Diversity were the surprise winners of television contest “Britain’s Got Talent” on Saturday, beating favorite Susan Boyle who became an Internet phenomenon and global celebrity after appearing on the show.
The troupe, which includes three sets of brothers and comes from southeast England, won 100,000 pounds ($160,000) and the right to take the stage at the Royal Variety Performance in front of the Queen.
Of the 10 finalists, Diversity were the bookmakers’ sixth favorite to win going into the show, but their acrobatic performance choreographed by 20-year-old Ashley Banjo was described by judge Simon Cowell as “utter perfection.”
American Idol judge Simon Cowell thought his ex-girlfriend was joking when she called him to reveal she’d been attacked on Tuesday night – but now accepts the incident was “terrible”.
TV presenter Terri Seymour was covering the American Idol in Los Angeles when a woman attempted to choke her.
Friends helped fight the attacker, Janice Thibodeaux, off and police later arrested her, but Seymour was so shaken up by the incident she called her ex-boyfriend.
Cowell says, “(It was) a frenzied attack, (she was) nearly strangled… She called me… It was some crazy girl (who is) locked up. It was bad. I felt sorry for her (Seymour).”
AMERICAN Idol judge Kara DioGuardi stripped down to her bikini at the show’s final last night – and the new champ was revealed.
The celeb-filled audience was stunned when Kris Allen, 23 from Arkansas, was crowned the winner instead of favourite Adam Lambert, 27.
The student looked shocked as host Ryan Seacrest delivered the news and clutched his trophy in disbelief.
Judge Simon Cowell told the finalists, “I thought you were both brilliant, unusually, incredibly nice people and I think both of you should be incredibly proud of what you achieved last night.”
Not much has changed about Kris Allen since his mostly forgettable “American Idol” audition. Well, except for the winning-it-all part.
When the 23-year-old college student from Conway, Ark., first auditioned with Leon Russell’s “A Song for You” in Louisville, Ky., he seemed nothing more than a boy-next-door “Idol” hopeful, lacking the instant juggernaut feel of showy 27-year-old runner-up Adam Lambert or even plucky 17-year-old spark plug Allison Iraheta.
They say it’s all about the singing. But there’s much more than just talent to talk about as Adam Lambert and Kris Allen step up to the stage for tonight’s season eight finale of “American Idol.”
Tuesday night, Lambert showed off his vocal prowess by making good of Tears for Fears’ “Mad World” and Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come,” while Allen belted out “Ain’t No Sunshine” and Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On.”
Both contestants also sang a song penned by newbie “Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi, “No Boundaries.”
He gained a following with his soulful singing and snazzy glasses, but ousted “American Idol” contestant Danny Gokey said on Thursday he foresaw his elimination from the competition’s top three.
Gokey, who sported different pairs of stylish eyeglasses during his run on “Idol,” said he began the season with 15 pairs and ended with 50. “I really would like to start a Danny line or a Gokey line of eyeglasses,” he said.
Gokey, 29, said he had a sense all day that he would be cut, especially when rival Kris Allen, a presumed underdog, was tapped to advance and Gokey was left standing with the judges’ favorite, Adam Lambert.
Adam Lambert wears eyeliner and diamond stud earrings, sings like a dream and has won a rare standing ovation from tough-minded judge Simon Cowell.
With three weeks to go before the “American Idol” final, Lambert, 27, is favored to win the No. 1 U.S. television talent show and become, possibly, the first gay or bisexual singer to be handed the “Idol” title by millions of Americans.
Lambert, praised by “Idol” judges for taking risks with songs like Cher’s “Believe”, has never publicly confirmed his sexual preference, nor has he denied speculation about being gay — a striking contrast to 2003 runner-up Clay Aiken.
When photos showing him kissing other men and dressed in drag circulated on the Internet last month, Lambert said simply: “I have nothing to hide. I am who I am.”
Critics are dismayed by a rule change introduced to hit talent show American Idol, which gives judges the power to save an act from public elimination.
Some TV insiders have called the move, which can be performed just once during the series and must be agreed by all four judges, “un-American”.
The show, now in its seventh year, is the most popular programme in the US.
Pioneered by Simon Fuller, the show has launched the careers of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson.
Traditionally, contestants have been selected or eliminated by public vote alone.
Tatiana Nicole Del Toro is in the top 36 contestants on FOX’s “American Idol 8.” Tatiana Nicole Del Toro auditioned in San Francisco, California. Tatiana Nicole Del Toro sang “Never Loved a Man” by Aretha Franklin for her audition. All the judges except for Simon Cowell voted yes to send Tatiana Nicole Del Toro to Hollywood. Tatiana Del Toro was in the first group of 12 contestants to perform out of the top 36 and did not receive enough votes to guarantee her a spot among the 12 finalists.
