Big Bang is a Korean musical group made up of five Korean men. When they first debuted, they were considered to be the new face of the YG Family, a pet name for their management company YG Entertainment. Although their debut was somewhat successful, it was not until the release of “거짓말” (“Lies“) that the group gained mainstream success. Big Bang have been noted for their music as well as their fashionable clothing, becoming famous throughout the country in the process.

Before Big Bang’s major debut, each member had his own degree of success and popularity in the entertainment industry. Leader G-Dragon and lead vocalist Taeyang had already been with YG Entertainment since they were both twelve years old, known as GD and YB back then. Member T.O.P was well known as an underground hip-hop rapper while Seung Ri was first introduced to the entertainment industry through the show Let’s Cokeplay Battle Shinhwa.

After the lineups for the group was finally made, the television network MTV Korea released a ten-episode documentary that showed the members in training before their debut as an official group (an eleventh episode was added after final members were decided). The first six episodes detailed each individual member’s background and motivation for becoming a singer. The documentary portrayed the arduous process of training by showing their dancing and singing practice sessions. Beyond being just a behind-the-scenes reality show, the series also eliminated various candidates unfit for Big Bang. Two members, SO-1 and Seungri (Lee Seung Hyun) were considered for elimination, but they were given second chances to showcase their abilities in singing, dancing, and performing. However, this eventually resulted in Yang Hyun Suk (the CEO of YG Entertainment) dropping SO-1 because he lacked stage presence and was “too shy”. On the other hand, Seung Ri was able to successfully impress Yang with his dancing and singing skills, thus making the group. This documentary helped gain recognition for the group.

Before deciding on an official name for the group, the members had suggested several names, such as “Apex”, “Stump,” and “Diamond”. Finally it was decided on “Big Bang” as producer and founder of YG Entertainment Yang Hyun Suk thought the other names were too childish. Big Bang made their official debut at the YG Family concert, held on August 19, 2006 at the Gymnastics Arena in Seoul Olympic Park.

Prior to the release of their first album, the group had a unique release schedule, with three EPs released within a span of a few months. Their first EP was The First Single Album, which spawned the top-ten hit single “This Love”, a remake of the American boy band Maroon 5′s own single. The single debuted with over 17,000 copies sold in the month of August and later went on to sell approximately nearly 40,000 copies. The second EP Big Bang is V.I.P. was released a month later, selling 21,000 copies in that month. It finally netted sales of 32,000 copies. Their third and last EP, B I G B A N G 0 3, followed the success of their previous EPs with final sales nearing 30,000 copies.

Later in the year, Big Bang’s own official fan club was created, calling themselves the “V.I.P.” (in reflection of their second single “Big Bang is V.I.P.”). Unlike other fan clubs, Big Bang’s fans do not have a balloon color for showing support at concerts; instead, fans wave black and white BB (obviously standing for Big Bang) handkerchiefs/bandannas. At the end of December 2006, Big Bang held their very first concert titled The Real. The following month, their first debut album Since 2007, which was essentially a compilation of songs from their previous singles, was released; it sold 48,009 copies by the end of February 2007.

By the end of 2009, Big Bang became the most searched artist in South Korea. They also became the first foreign group in Japan to receive the Japan Cable Broadcasting Award for “Best Newcomer”, and the first from Korea to receive the Japan Records award. In recent years, the members have branched out to do solo activities: Taeyang and G-Dragon have released solo materials while T.O.P, Daesung and Seungri have started acting.

The MCRT is led by Supervisory Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon). Gibbs’s team is composed of Special Agent and Senior Field Agent Anthony “Tony” DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly), Special Agent Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) and Probationary Special Agent (formerly Mossad liaison officer) Ziva David (Cote de Pablo), who replaced Caitlin “Kate” Todd (Sasha Alexander) when she was shot by Ari Haswari (Rudolf Martin) at the end of season two. Ari was then killed by his half-sister Ziva at the beginning of season three. The team is assisted in their investigations by Chief Medical Examiner Donald “Ducky” Mallard (David McCallum), Medical Assistant Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen), who replaced Gerald Jackson (Pancho Demmings), and Forensic Specialist Abigail “Abby” Sciuto (Pauley Perrette).

It has been revealed through flashbacks that the ‘original’ head of the MCRT was Special Agent Mike Franks, who led the unit when it was part of NIS. He recruited Gibbs shortly after Gibbs’ retirement from the Marine Corps, eventually retiring himself some years later. After Franks’ departure, Gibbs recruited DiNozzo from the Baltimore Police Department’s Homicide Section. The two were briefly joined by Vivian Blackadder, whom Gibbs recruited from the FBI. In the second part of the NCIS pilot, Blackadder allowed her emotions to nearly derail an anti-terror operation in Spain. Gibbs is noticeably disappointed, Blackadder is not present in the series’ first regular episode. McGee first appears as a Field Agent assigned to the Norfolk Field Office. He uses his computer skills to aid the MCRT in subsequent investigations through the rest of the first season, until he is officially promoted with his own desk at the Navy Yard in the beginning of the second season.

NCIS is currently led by Director Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll). The first director seen in the series, Thomas Morrow (Alan Dale), left after being promoted to Deputy Director of DHS. Jenny Shepard (Lauren Holly) was appointed director after Morrow; she was killed in a shootout at the end of the fifth season, thus making Vance the director of the whole organization.

Shinee is considered to be a fashion icon having started the “Shinee Trend”.

In late May 2008 news articles started to surface online about SM Entertainment’s new group, Shinee. On May 23, the group’s first mini-album, Replay was released. Replay debuted at #10 on the Korean music charts and peaked at #8, selling 17,957 copies in the first half of 2008.

On June 7, 2008, Shinee participated in the Dream Concert in the Seoul Olympic Stadium along with other high profile Korean stars such as Epik High, Girls’ Generation, Super Junior, TVXQ and the Wonder Girls. The group won their first award, Rookie of the Month, at the Cyworld Digital Music Award on June 22, 2008. Shinee took part in SMTown Live ’08, which was held on August 18, 2008. They performed alongside labelmates BoA, Zhang Liyin, Cheon Sang Ji Hee the Grace, Girls’ Generation, Super Junior and TVXQ. On August 23, 2008, Shinee attended MNet’s 20′s Choice Awards 2008, where they won the “Hot New Star” award. Shinee released their full debut album, The Shinee World, on August 28, 2008. The album debuted on the charts at #3, selling 30,000 copies.

The first single released from the album was “Sanso Gateun Neo (Love Like Oxygen)” (산소 같은 너 (Love Like Oxygen), lit. You Are Like Oxygen), a cover of “Show the World” by Martin Hoberg Hedegaard, originally written by the Danish songwriting and production team of Thomas Troelsen, Remee and Lucas Secon. On September 18, 2008, Shinee’s “Sanso Gateun Neo (Love Like Oxygen)” was the No. 1 song on M! Countdown. A few days later, Shinee received the “Mutizen” award for the single on SBS’s Popular Songs. Shinee participated in the “5th Asia Song Festival”, where they received the “Best New Artist” award with Japanese girl group Berryz Kobo.

Shinee attended the 2008 Style Icon Awards on October 30, 2008, where they won the “Best Style Icon Award”. On the same day, they released The Shinee World as a repackaged album under the name Amigo. Included on album were three new songs: “Forever or Never”, a remix of “Sa. Gye. Han (Love Should Go On)” (사.계.한) and the promotional single “A.Mi.Go (Amigo)” (아.미.고). “A.Mi.Go” is a shortened version of the Korean phrase “Areumdaun Minyeorueljoahamyeon Gosaenghanda” (아름다운 미녀를 좋아하면 고생한다 lit. Heart Aches When You Fall In Love With a Beauty).

On November 15, 2008 Shinee won the “Best Male Rookie” award at the 10th annual MNET KM Music Festival, beating fellow newcomers U-KISS, 2PM, 2AM and Mighty Mouth. At the 23rd Annual Golden Disk Awards, they performed a medley of their songs, “Noona Neomu Yeppeo (Replay)”, “Sanso Gateun Neo (Love Like Oxygen)” and “A.Mi.Go (Amigo)” and won the award for “YEPP Newcomer Album”.

Their marriage may be crumbling, their faces may be plastered on the cover of every supermarket tabloid, and their eight children may soon be living in a broken home, but at least Jon and Kate Gosselin can find one upside in their endless marital drama: the ratings for Monday’s season premiere of Jon & Kate Plus Eight were huge. The hourlong episode attracted an astounding 9.8 million U.S. viewers, nearly double the audience for March’s Season 4 finale, Entertainment Weekly reports. It was also TLC’s most-watched show ever. The episode benefited from an increased interest in the reality TV family, since allegations of the Gosselins’ rumoured affairs and marriage troubles have dominated the press for weeks. Though the episode attempted to follow the reality show’s usual kid-focused format — with Kate corralling the troops to organize a fifth birthday party for the sextuplets — it also managed to address the couple’s marital woes. In separate interviews, the 34-year-old mother said her husband has “made poor decisions and we have to live with it,” while Jon maintained that he did not cheat on Kate and that “people are getting paid off [by the tabloids] to say whatever they want to say.” [...]

The hourlong episode attracted an astounding 9.8 million U.S. viewers, nearly double the audience for March’s Season 4 finale, Entertainment Weekly reports. It was also TLC’s most-watched show ever.

Our current situation brings us together around the children and some times sets us apart. We keep our faith that we will make the right decisions for our family.”
