NCIS follows a fictional team of Naval Criminal Investigative Service Major Case Response Team (MCRT) special agents headquartered at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. It is described by the actors and producers (on special features on DVD releases in the United States) as being distinguished by its comic elements, ensemble acting and character-driven plots.

NCIS is the primary law enforcement and counter-intelligence arm of the United States Department of the Navy, which includes the United States Marine Corps. NCIS investigates all major criminal offenses (felonies)—crimes punishable under the Uniform Code of Military Justice by confinement of more than one year—within the Department of the Navy. The MCRT is frequently assigned to high profile cases such as the death of the U.S. president’s military aide, a bomb situation on a U.S. Navy warship, the death of a celebrity on a reality show set on a USMC base, terrorist threats, and kidnappings.

The MCRT is led by Supervisory Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon). Gibbs’s team is composed of Special Agent and Senior Field Agent Anthony “Tony” DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly), Special Agent Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) and Probationary Special Agent (formerly Mossad liaison officer) Ziva David (Cote de Pablo), who replaced Caitlin “Kate” Todd (Sasha Alexander) when she was shot by Ari Haswari (Rudolf Martin) at the end of season two. Ari was then killed by his half-sister Ziva at the beginning of season three. The team is assisted in their investigations by Chief Medical Examiner Donald “Ducky” Mallard (David McCallum), Medical Assistant Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen), who replaced Gerald Jackson (Pancho Demmings), and Forensic Specialist Abigail “Abby” Sciuto (Pauley Perrette).

It has been revealed through flashbacks that the ‘original’ head of the MCRT was Special Agent Mike Franks, who led the unit when it was part of NIS. He recruited Gibbs shortly after Gibbs’ retirement from the Marine Corps, eventually retiring himself some years later. After Franks’ departure, Gibbs recruited DiNozzo from the Baltimore Police Department’s Homicide Section. The two were briefly joined by Vivian Blackadder, whom Gibbs recruited from the FBI. In the second part of the NCIS pilot, Blackadder allowed her emotions to nearly derail an anti-terror operation in Spain. Gibbs is noticeably disappointed, Blackadder is not present in the series’ first regular episode. McGee first appears as a Field Agent assigned to the Norfolk Field Office. He uses his computer skills to aid the MCRT in subsequent investigations through the rest of the first season, until he is officially promoted with his own desk at the Navy Yard in the beginning of the second season.

NCIS is currently led by Director Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll). The first director seen in the series, Thomas Morrow (Alan Dale), left after being promoted to Deputy Director of DHS. Jenny Shepard (Lauren Holly) was appointed director after Morrow; she was killed in a shootout at the end of the fifth season, thus making Vance the director of the whole organization.

The accident involved no other vehicle and the Oscar winner was neither drunk nor under the influence of drugs at the wheel, police said in a statement.

“For unknown reasons, Mr Gibson steered his car to the right and struck the rock hillside,” the statement said.

“His vehicle was towed from the scene, DUI is not suspected in the accident,” it added.

The accident follows a troubled few weeks for the Australian-raised star, who is under investigation for domestic violence after his former partner Oksana Grigorieva released recordings of abusive telephone calls he allegedly made.

Gibson’s driving habits made the headlines in 2006 when he was arrested at the wheel with 1.5 times the legal blood alcohol limit.

He was sentenced to three years’ probation and fined $US1,300 after undergoing alcohol rehabilitation.

At the time, Gibson’s arrest exploded into a major scandal when he made anti-Semitic remarks to the highway patrol.

US actor Charlie Sheen has been sentenced to 30 days in rehabilitation after he pleaded guilty to assault in a domestic violence case.

His wife, Brooke Mueller Sheen, had told police he had put a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her during a row on Christmas Day 2009.

He denied the claims, and more serious charges were dropped in a plea bargain.

The 44-year-old was put on probation and told to undergo 36 hours of anger management.

He was told to attend the Promises Treatment Center in California, which specialises in drug and alcohol addiction.

But his lawyer said as the actor had already spent three months at the centre this year, it was uncertain how long he would now actually have to stay there.

“Credit for time served is absolutely on the table,” said Yale Galanter. “How much credit he gets is up to Promises.”

“I’m very grateful to the court and to the people of Pitkin County,” Sheen said in a statement after the hearing in the Colorado court.

“I look forward to complying with the court’s decision, getting on with my life and putting this behind me.”

According to reports, the couple agreed to reconcile earlier this year.

Sheen married Brooke Mueller, his third wife, in 2008 following an acrimonious divorce from actress Denise Richards.

The actor – one of US TV’s highest-paid stars – recently signed a deal to star in US sitcom Two and a Half Men for another two seasons.

Lawyer Yale Galanter said Sheen would be back working on the show on Tuesday.

Aretha Wilson, 40, attacked the star at a private party in Hollywood, resulting in him needing about a dozen stitches to his face and neck.

After fleeing to Canada, Ms Wilson was extradited to Los Angeles to face a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.

She was ordered to not to contact, or come within 500 yds (457m) of DiCaprio.

Ms Wilson is accused of sneaking into a party hosted by Paris Hilton’s former boyfriend, Rick Salomon.

According to police, she mistook DiCaprio for an ex-boyfriend and attacked him with the bottle.

DiCaprio later filed a formal criminal complaint with authorities and a warrant was issued for Ms Wilson’s arrest after she failed to report to a police station.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Hilleri G Merritt ordered Ms Wilson back to court on 11 August, where she will face the charges.

The judge also raised her bail from $60,000 (£38,000) to $150,000 (£95,000) stating concern about her “willingness and ability to come back to court”.

The prosecutor said Ms Wilson was on probation for a previous offence in Canada at the time of the attack.

At a rescheduled hearing on May 24, 2010 Lohan was ordered to attend weekly alcohol education classes, wear an alcohol-monitoring bracelet, refrain from drinking alcohol, and undergo random weekly drug tests to remain free on bail. The judge scheduled a hearing for July 6, 2010 to determine whether Lohan had violated probation by not having attended the required number of classes to date.

She has been in jail in Texas on charges of forgery, fraud and breaking her probation, and her trial began on Monday.

But in a shocking new twist, Cristal told a reporter from ‘Dallas Morning News’ in a telephone interview: “I am pregnant.”

According to Taylor, the pregnancy only came to light when she was examined whilst in prison: “”I didn’t even know,” she told the newspaper. “Nobody knew until they tested me in Dallas.”

He broke up with Taylor after the accusations were made against her and immediately stopped contact – he even changed his phone number and said he wanted nothing more to do with her. Now he must stand by the woman who let him down.

In the interview, Taylor said: “I didn’t tell him everything about my past, because I was afraid that he might leave me. Now I’m pregnant and alone and broke because he is my only source of income.”

An official confirmation of her statement is still pending. There has been no word from prison management.

Nowitzki’s coach Holger Geschwindner (63) told BILD: “If she is really pregnant, then Dirk will behave accordingly.”

Cristal Taylor ‘pregnant’ with NBA star’s baby:

The actor attended a “24″ DVD release party Tuesday night, one of his first public appearances since he was charged with assault for allegedly headbutting a fashion designer in New York last week.

The star of the hit show, who already is on probation for a 2007 drunken-driving case and who is due to appear in court on June 22, was tight-lipped on the assault charge, and its implications for the upcoming shoot.

Conveniently, he will be in the Big Apple anyway, since the show is moving to the East Coast for the first time next season. He was similarly mum on key plot developments.

“I can tell you that it’s grounded in a political shift that’s taking place in the world, that I actually think is probably the most realistic thing we’ve ever done,” he said.

“It’s going to be centered in one of the most realistic circumstances, because some of our stuff — let’s be fair — has been kind of far-fetched. But this one I think is quite possible, so I’m very excited about that.”

Sutherland, 42, stars as Jack Bauer, a government agent who tirelessly saves the world from terrorists and other shady bad guys. Each season covers one day, divided into 24 real-time episodes.

In real life, he spent 48 days in a Los Angeles jail early last year after being arrested in 2007 for drunken driving. He is now serving five years probation for that incident.
