Her career was interrupted in 2007 as two driving under the influence (DUI) incidents and three visits to drug rehabilitation facilities led to several lost movie deals. Resuming her career, she guest starred in the TV series Ugly Betty in 2008, starred in the 2009 comedy Labor Pains, and will appear in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete in 2010. Lohan launched a second career in pop music in 2004 with the album Speak and followed up with A Little More Personal (Raw) in 2005. Controversy

In April 2010, producers announced that Lohan was cast as adult-film performer Linda Lovelace, star of Deep Throat, in the film Inferno, scheduled to be directed by Matthew Wilder and produced by Chris Hanley. Filming is scheduled to start either in August 2010 or in Fall 2010. Lohan has defended herself against criticism of the role, saying that the film will not be pornographic. She gave an interview to the Sydney Morning Herald in which she said “the way that Matthew [Wilder] wants to shoot it is not vulgar. It’s not about the raw sex and the shots of her fully nude. It’s more about getting into her psyche and seeing how scared she was. That’s what I want to show most in the film. She went on to tell the interviewer that she had “never played someone’s true-life story before. A lot of the other movies I did were just brainless for me. So it’s nice to play something where I’m able to experience all these different emotions.”

In May 2010, Lohan did not appear for a scheduled DUI progress report hearing. The judge issued a bench warrant for Lohan’s arrest, but rescinded the warrant after Lohan’s representatives posted bail. Lohan’s lawyer said her passport was stolen while she attended the Cannes Film Festival in France. At a rescheduled hearing on May 24, 2010 Lohan was ordered to attend weekly alcohol education classes, wear an alcohol-monitoring bracelet, refrain from drinking alcohol, and undergo random weekly drug tests to remain free on bail. The judge scheduled a hearing for July 6, 2010 to determine whether Lohan had violated probation by not having attended the required number of classes to date.

In June 2010, Lohan made an appearance on the Bravo television series Double Exposure. She also gave an interview to The Sydney Morning Herald that month, telling the paper “I’m still young and I’m still learning but that doesn’t mean that what they say is true, that I’m getting messed up and all this crazy stuff and that I’m constantly partying or whatever.”

At Lohan’s July 6 probation revocation hearing, the judge determined that Lohan had indeed violated the terms of her probation and sentenced her to 90 days in jail, starting July 20; in addition, the judge ordered Lohan to check into an inpatient rehab program for three months after her release from jail. On July 20, Lohan appeared in court and was taken into custody to begin her jail term. Los Angeles County Sheriff officials stated that Lohan will spend only 13 days in jail pursuant to a policy of early release of non-violent offenders to reduce jail overcrowding.

Early years

Carla Gilberta Bruni Tedeschi was born in Turin, Italy, and is heiress to the fortune created by the Italian tyre manufacturing company CEAT, founded in the 1920s by her grandfather Virginio Bruni Tedeschi. The company was sold in the 1970s to Pirelli (the brand lives on via its former subsidiary in India, founded in 1958). The family moved to France in 1975, reportedly to escape the threat of kidnapping by the Red Brigades, a Marxist-Leninist terrorist group active in Italy in the 1970s. Family

Though she is legally a daughter of Italian concert pianist Marisa Borini and industrialist and classical composer Alberto Bruni Tedeschi, Bruni-Sarkozy revealed to Vanity Fair in 2008 that her biological father is an Italian, naturalized Brazilian grocery magnate Maurizio Remmert, who, as a young classical guitarist, had a six-year affair with her mother. Her sister is actress and movie director Valeria Bruni Tedeschi. She also had a brother, Virginio Bruni Tedeschi (1959 – 4 July 2006), who died from complications of HIV/AIDS.

First lady of France

Following her marriage to Sarkozy, in February 2008, Bruni-Sarkozy continued accompanying him on state visits, including to the United Kingdom in March 2008, which created a sensation in the international press and the public in the UK and France.

There was controversy on the eve of the state visit to the UK, with the publication by Christie’s auction house of a nude photograph of Bruni taken during her career as a model. The photograph sold for $91,000. There was also great interest in Bruni’s wardrobe, which was Christian Dior, seen as a diplomatic choice, being a French design house designed by John Galliano, a British designer. Another controversy was the use of a popular photo of the French President and Bruni in the print advertising of Ryanair. The couple was awarded damages by a French court which they donated to Les Restos du Cœur, an organisation which provides meals to the homeless.

Bruni-Sarkozy met the Dalai Lama in August 2008 at a Buddhist temple on a hill in Languedoc, France. Another important event for Bruni was the reception of Pope Benedict XVI during his visit to France in September 2008. Bruni visited New York City in September 2008 with her husband, where she attended a meeting on poverty and female mortality with Queen Rania and Wendi Murdoch, met for lunch with First Lady Laura Bush at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the Symposium on Advancing Global Literacy and attended the General Assembly in the UN with her husband.

In December 2008, Bruni sued the makers of a bag featuring a nude shot of the French first lady taken during her supermodelling youth. Clothes designer Pardon has produced 10,000 of the shopping bags emblazoned with the nude photo taken in 1993, showing Bruni staring at the camera with her crossed hands covering her crotch.

In April 2009, Carla was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Carlos III on the occasion of the couple’s Spanish State Visit.

She has been critical of Pope Benedict XVI on the controversial topic of religion and AIDS.

The Villa Grisebach auction house appraised “Carla Bruni in Bed” at $3,568-$4,997 and talked to prospective buyers from as far away as Mexico, according to the house’s photography expert, Franziska Schmidt.

“I really don’t know why there is such a hype,” Schmidt said. “For us it is not the highlight.”

Last year, Christie’s auction house in New York sold a different nude print of Bruni for 30 times more than anticipated. An anonymous bidder paid $91,000 for the photograph.

Villa Grisebach would not provide any information on the winning bidder Thursday.

Former Octagon girl Leah is used to appearing on the pages of magazines.

But the Las Vegas resident admits she sought advice before agreeing to appear in Hugh Heffner’s iconic title.

She said: “I didn’t accept the offer until I asked my mother and father because I’m very close with them.

“I’ve got a very supportive family, so I’m really lucky that everyone is really proud of me.

“And it’s not like this is just some random nude magazine – it’s Playboy, the biggest magazine in the world, so I’m pretty excited about that and they are too.

“The main reason I did it was because to be on the cover of Playboy is a huge honour.

“And I’m open-minded – I’m not the type of girl that’s like ‘oh my God, you should never be nude’.

“But I am the type of girl that says you should never be nude if it’s not done right, but I knew that it was going to be done right.”

Leah’s profile has rocketed since she first appeared as an Octagon girl at UFC 48 in 2004.

She has just finished filming action-horror movie The Bleeding, alongside Vinnie Jones, Michael Madsen and Armand Assante, and has also signed on as a spokesmodel for Anheuser-Busch.

And the model hopes appearing in the world’s greatest men’s magazine will catapult her to even further heights.

She added: “I was hoping it would take on a life of its own and I’m hoping that it opens a ton of doors for me, as well as securing the doors that have already been opened for me.

“I want to capitalise on this in every different way possible.

“I’m at a point in my career where I’ve already accomplished so much and I want to do so many more things.

“Hopefully, this will help kick-start it even more.”

Despite being nervous as to how her fans will react to the photoshoot, Leah is very pleased at how the entire process unfolded.

She said: “I’m really happy with the way it came out. My whole deal was that I wanted it to be very classy, elegant and mature – and it is.

“With all the creative control they gave me and the picture approvals I had, I knew where everything was going and it was perfect – it was a great shoot. People will like it.”
