Katy Perry makes a splash in Singapore
She’s a two-time Grammy-nominated artiste who has topped the charts with hits like “Hot and Cold” and “Thinking of you”.
And Katy Perry is ready to make a comeback with a brand new album, she said at a recent press conference.
The press conference took place at Marina Bay Sands Hotel’s Infinity Pool.
It started off like a routine session with the media, except that the real deal was to get wet and wild with Katy Perry in the pool.
“We are going to have a civilised press conference in a civilised environment,” Katy said, adding “in the water!”.
Fans known as “Katy Cats” even got lucky.
“Katy spotted our poster and then she told the guards to let us in, so yes, we are very excited right now,” one fan said.
Another fan who flew in just to meet Katy said: “I am from Indonesia, I came to Singapore just to meet Katy Perry, (and I’m happy that) I finally met her and I took pictures with her!”
Katy has sold five million copies of her debut album “One Of The Boys” worldwide.
But she’s still surprised by the reception in Asia.
“I did not know that there were actually (real) fans. When I was in Malaysia, I thought people (showed up) because (it) was my first show in Malaysia, but I did not know that (there were) 15,000 people (and) more than half of them were singing along to every single lyric. I felt so emotional at that moment,” Katy said.
Katy added she loves the cultures and fans of Asia, except for their “king of fruits” .
“They tried to make me eat one of those prickly fruits because I like fruits. Is that the durian? I’m sorry. I love you guys so much, but we have things like pineapples, grapes and apples and oranges watermelon, and those are much better. Whoever discovered (durians) should not have had – ever!”
But the 25-year-old was happy to discover her “teenage dreams”, which is also the title of her upcoming album.
“I grew up idolising Gwen Stefani. She is like my end all, be all. She’s so beautiful and she’s so smart and I love her music, so I wanted to be exactly like her in everything I did, and that was kind of like my teenage dream. I was all related to music, I even left school when I was 15 because I knew exactly what I wanted to do,” she said.
Her album will be released later this month.
