The 46-year-old actress also grabbed Choice Actress Award in a romantic comedy for “The Proposal”, for which she also shared the Choice Dance award with Betty White.

“I don’t know if you should bring attention to this. Some things are better left unsaid. It’s been awhile since I was a teen,” Bullock said. “I’m so blessed and lucky. The Blind Side – I got to meet so many good people, so many good lessons I took away from it.”

The ceremony of Teen Choice Awards 2010 was held at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles. The host, pop singer Katy Perry kicked off the night with her latest song “Teenage Dream.”

Selena Gomez, Channing Tatum, Taylor Lautner, Megan Fox and the cast of Glee also walked the blue carpet of the ceremony.

Teen pop sensation Justin Bieber also accepted an award and performed the hit “U Smile”.

The pop singer is shortlisted twice for the prestigious video of the year prize for Bad Romance and Telephone, which also featured Beyonce.

“I’m so honoured for all the little monsters and self-possessed freaks of the universe,” she said.

The awards ceremony is due to take place in Los Angeles on 12 September.

Eminem will compete against Lady Gaga in the video of the year category for Not Afraid, while Florence and the Machine is also in the running for Dog Days Are Over.

British nominees

Other British acts who have made the shortlist include Coldplay, Gorillaz and Mercury-nominated folksters Mumford and Sons.

Lady Gaga’s work on Telephone with Beyonce is also nominated in several categories including best collaboration, where it faces a challenge from Alicia Keys and Jay-Z’s Empire State of Mind.

Other artists also in the running for video prizes include teen heart-throb Justin Bieber for best new artist and Katy Perry for her hit California Gurls.

Lady Gaga said of her nominations success: “Ironically, I’m even more proud that it’s an unlucky number, 13.

“God put me on Earth for three reasons – to make loud music, gay videos and make a damn ruckus!” said the singer.

Lady Gaga picked up the best new artist award at last year’s event which saw rapper Kanye West upset music fans and even President Barack Obama when he interrupted teen singer Taylor Swift during an acceptance speech for best female video to praise fellow nominee Beyonce.

Plot

The film is about an old man who lives in a submerged town. As the water rises, he’s forced to add additional levels on to his home with bricks (cubes) in order to stay dry. One day he drops his favorite pipe into the lower levels of his home. In the search for another pipe, he decides to purchase a wetsuit instead to use as he dives down to retrieve his original pipe. As he moves downwards through the different stories of his home, he relives scenes from his life.

“Titanic” star Winslet, 33, was Oscar-nominated five times in the past 13 years years but had always returned home empty-handed.

Her best actress Oscar joins two Golden Globes, a Screen Actors Guild award, a British BAFTA and a handful of U.S. critics awards that Winslet has won this season.

“To the academy, thank you so much,” she said. Winslet gave credit to her fellow best actress nominees — Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Angelina Jolie and Melissa Leo — calling them “goddesses.”

“I think we all can’t believe we are in the category with Meryl Streep at all,” Winslet said.

In addition to Winslet’s acclaimed turn in “The Reader,” she won plaudits this awards season for her performance as a disillusioned housewife in “Revolutionary Road.” The two films were released only weeks apart.

Winslet told the Academy Award audience she would be lying if she said she hadn’t practiced an Oscar acceptance speech before.

“I think I was probably 8 years old and staring into the bathroom mirror, and this would have been a shampoo bottle,” she said gesturing to her golden statuette. “Well, it’s not a shampoo bottle now!”

‘HARD, LONELY’

Winslet has said that portraying Hanna Schmitz, a former Nazi prison guard who embarks on an affair with a teen-age boy more than a decade later, was the most challenging role she had ever played because she had little in her own life to draw on.

“Just getting underneath the skin of such a complex person who had lived such an isolated life for so many different reasons, it was hard and quite lonely at times,” she told Reuters in a recent interview.

Winslet found international fame as the co-star of the 1997 blockbuster “Titanic” but rather than embracing Hollywood’s big time, she opted for smaller, art house movies often made in her native Britain.

In parts ranging from the quirky girlfriend in “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” to the laundress in an 18th century insane asylum in “Quills,” Winslet made a point of avoiding the cute blonde actress career trap.

She is a close friend of her “Titanic” co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, but it took the pair more than ten years to team up again, this time in the anti-romance “Revolutionary Road.”

Winslet is married to Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes and has two young children. On Sunday she thanked all three for “letting me do what I love and who love me just the way that I am.”

Cruz, 34, thanked both Allen and Spanish film director Pedro Almodovar for their roles in shaping her career and dedicated the gold statuette to the actors from her country.

“Thank you Woody for trusting me with this beautiful character. Thank you for having written over all these years some of the greatest characters for women,” she said.

With her Oscar win, Cruz, joins fellow actresses Dianne Wiest and Mira Sorvino in scoring best supporting-actress Oscars for their performances in Woody Allen films.

“I grew up in a place called Alcobendas, where this was not a very realistic dream,” said Cruz.

Dressed in a 60-year-old ivory Pierre Balmain vintage gown and fighting back tears, Cruz asked anyone had ever fainted while accepting an Oscar. “I might be the first one.”

Born in Madrid to a hairdresser and an auto mechanic, Cruz got her big break in the Spanish film industry in 1992 with “Jamon Jamon.”

She captured the attention of the Oscar-winning Almodovar, who cast her in various movies including the 2006 film “Volver,” which earned her a best actress Oscar nomination for her turn as a woman who kills her abusive husband.

That nod made Cruz the first Spanish woman to be nominated for a best actress Academy Award for a non-English speaking role.

Cruz thanked Almodovar for “having made me part of so many of his adventures.”

Cruz’s Oscar win on Sunday follows a British BAFTA award and other U.S. critics awards this season for her performance in “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” as the fiery ex-wife to a bohemian artist portrayed by Javier Bardem who has wooed a pair of young American women vacationing Spain.

Cruz struggled for years to convince English-speaking movie audiences to take her seriously after critics panned her earlier performances in films like “Woman on Top,” and was sometimes better-known for high-profile romances with stars like Tom Cruise and Matthew McConaughey.

‘CLIMBING MOUNTAINS’

Backstage on Sunday, Cruz said she is grateful that she was not discouraged by those earlier “invalidations.”

“You have to keep climbing mountains. It’s better not to listen or to engage in those debates,” she said, adding that she is encouraged by how more open the entertainment industry is to people with accents.

“It has been changing. We are all mixed together and that has to be reflected in cinema. I’m happy that finally that door seems to be more open and not just to me and three other people, but to a much bigger group,” she said.

Penelope Cruz wins first Oscar for Spanish actress

Penn, 48, picked up the second Oscar of his career, the first being his 2004 win for his lead role as a grieving father in “Mystic River.”

“You commie, homo-loving, sons of guns,” the sharp-tongued Penn told the audience as he collected his award. “I did not expect this and…I know how hard I make it to appreciate me.”

The straight actor’s portrayal of an openly gay politician was a timely one — with “Milk” coming out shortly after California’s same-sex couples lost their right to marry in a voter referendum.

“I think it is a good time for those who voted for the ban against gay marriage to sit and reflect and anticipate their great shame and the shame in their grandchildren’s eyes if they continue that way,” Penn said.

“We’ve got to have equal rights for everyone.”

Penn, who has a tough guy image dating back to his early career scrapes with the paparazzi, convincingly evoked the legendary charm of Milk, who was shot to death in 1978 at San Francisco City Hall.

“He came in kind of ready made” for the role, openly gay “Milk” director Gus Van Sant said.

In presenting Penn as a nominee, storied actor Robert de Niro joked: “How, for so many years, did Sean Penn get all those straight roles?”

Several critics called the performance the best of Penn’s already storied and versatile career, which took off after his breakthrough surfer-stoner role as Spicoli in “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.”

This year’s best actor race was thought to be a battle between Penn and Mickey Rourke, an actor who scored a remarkable career comeback as an aging athlete trying to remain in the ring in “The Wrestler.”

“Mickey Rourke rises again,” Penn said. “And he is my brother.”

Penn won the Screen Actors Guild award for best actor earlier this year and a slew of critics’ prizes. The Oscar nomination for “Milk” was his fifth in the best actor category.

Sean Penn wins best actor Oscar for Milk

Never nominated for an Oscar, the prolific multihyphenate was honored with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. Lewis said he was deeply touched by the honor.

“For most of my life, I’ve thought that doing good for someone didn’t mean you would receive any commendation for an act of kindness — until now,” said Lewis, who has battled health problems in recent years and spoke in slow but strong voice. “This award touches me in the very depths of my soul.”

Eddie Murphy presented the honorary Oscar to Lewis, whom he dubbed a “famous overgrown kid” who has drawn inspiration from children.

“To all of you in the movie business, it’s such a joy to be a part of you and all that you do,” said Lewis, who made his screen debut in 1949, appearing with nightclub-act partner Dean Martin in the romantic comedy “My Friend Irma.”

In more recent decades, Lewis drew equal acclaim for his televised charity marathons on behalf of the Muscular Dystrophy Assn. The annual Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon has raised more than $2 billion since 1966.

Lewis and Martin starred in 16 films, and the pair eventually followed solo career paths. Lewis gained prominence as a comedy star, director and producer with film credits including “The Bellboy,” “The Nutty Professor,” “The Disorderly Orderly” and Martin Scorsese’s “The King of Comedy.”

The Academy’s selection of Lewis to receive this year’s humanitarian award has drawn criticism. Some cited his use of the slur “fag” on his 2007 telethon, and during an interview in October on Australian TV, he referred to cricket as “a fag game.” Some in the disabled community also objected to the honor going to Lewis, claiming that he has perpetuated negative stereotypes involving people with disabilities.

Academy exec director Bruce Davis defended the Academy’s decision against such Internet-based protests, saying Lewis “has shouldered the back-breaking job of organizing, and then leading, an unparalleled three-day fundraising effort on behalf of muscular dystrophy sufferers.”
